| Tom and the Cats are a local Marin County band dedicated to creating authentic
sounds and feelings of rock and roll roots reaching deep into the early fifties.
Formed in 1991, this high-energy rock band recently 'rocked the roof off the tent'
as they warmed up for Jerry Lee Lewis at the San Rafael Millenium Party. Tom
and the Cats keep busy by playing locally at taverns, party's, and weddings. They
also perform for many local organizations such as San Rafael Farmers Market, City
of Novato, City of San Rafael, City of San Anselmo and numerous Larkspur/Corte
Madera, San Anselmo and Novato 4th of July parades. Tom and the Cats have also performed for many 50's car show extravaganzas in the area. Skip Tozzi and Glen Giolotti, executives of the Marin Coupe and Roadster Club, have been keeping Tom and the Cats busy for many years. The band is considered Novato's official Nostalgia Days band. Says bandleader Tom Atkin; "We enjoy being a part of the community, giving something back as well as giving the community a chance to take a ride back into the past and enjoy the music of the good life". Tom and the Cats are always danceable and whimsically entertaining concentrating on producing a nostalgic sound and look. Playing many benefits and donating valuable services to the community, Tom and the Cats have helped raise money for charitable organizations such as The Novato Human Needs, Novato Teen Center, Pleasant Valley School District. We are committed to help promote the education and future of our kids. Tom Atkin reminisced, "The most memorable experience for me was the time we performed at Ericks Downtown Drive-In in San Rafael. The place was packed with bright, shinny, 50's cars and deuce coupes. Every color of the rainbow with equal amounts of chrome. The carhops were on roller skates. It was 72 degrees out and the sun was just setting beautifully over Mt. Tamalpais. The band was rocking with songs like At The Hop, by Danny and the Juniors, Come Go With Me by the Del Vikings, Johnny B Goode by Chuck Berry. The energy was tremendous. This was truly a Cinderella moment for the Tom and the Cats." |
